Eagles fall on road

Orange High’s Daniel Chairez found the end zone in the first quarter,
the first quarter again, in the second quarter ... you get the
picture.
Estancia’s football team fell to CIF Southern Section Division VII
No. 4 Orange on Friday, 50-6, in a Golden West League game at El
Modena. The loss was Estancia’s fifth straight loss to the Pirates.
Both teams struggled early in the game. The Eagles and the Pirates
traded punts, before Orange’s first substantial drive.
Orange scored their first touchdown midway through the first
quarter, after Estancia’s second punt.
Chairez caught Lucas Fasari’s punt near the left sideline and
crossed right across the field hurdling an Estancia player on his way
to the end zone.
Estancia was able to block the extra point attempt.
After Estancia faltered in their next drive, Orange scored
quickly. The Pirates started at their own 42, gained five yards on an
Eagle penalty. Then, Wilson handed the ball to Chairez, and he found
his way into open field on the right side and sprinted 53 yards to
the end zone.
Estancia was able to score late in the second quarter. Matt
Redding recovered an Orange fumble at the Pirate 43.
Estancia was able to put together a five-play drive, capped when
Watson rolled to his left and found Clayton Mills for an 11-yard
scoring pass.
“They’re a pretty good team, aren’t they?” Estancia Coach Brian
Barnes asked.
Quarterback Ryan Watson was one of the few bright spots for the
Eagles. The senior is learning Coach Barnes’ pass-heavy offensive.
Watson completed 17 of 35 passes to seven different receivers.
“We are building a program,” Barnes continued. “Orange is what I
want our program to look like. They play tough and they win.”
The loss drops the Eagles to 1-4, and 1-1 in league. The Eagles
play a nonleague game next Friday against Garden Grove at Newport
Harbor High.
