Target keeps Saturday deliveries

A remodeled Target shopping center will be allowed to receive

deliveries on Saturdays, despite protests from neighbors.

By a 4-3 vote, the planning commission decided to allow Target to

receive deliveries from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Target originally

asked for permission to receive deliveries from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Commissioners Steve Ray, Bob Dingwall and Flossie Horgan voted

against the proposal.

Earlier this year, Target demolished its old store at the corner

of Brookhurst Street and Adams Avenue in order to build a modern

shopping center. Neighbors are concerned Target’s proposed delivery

hours could be disruptive, especially on weekends.

Originally, the giant retailer was granted delivery hours from 8

a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, but the company requested a

hearing before zoning administrator Mary Beth Broeren. On Aug. 3, the

store was granted the Saturday delivery schedule.

After several complaints from neighbors, Dingwall opted to appeal

Broeren’s decision and let the commission decide the delivery hours.

The Saturday delivery hours will be reviewed by the full

commission in six months.

Although no final opening date has been announced, Target appears

to be wrapping up its remodeling.

The intersection where Target is located is undergoing major

renovations. A dilapidated shopping center nearby was recently

demolished and will be replaced with a new Ralph’s shopping center.

The city doesn’t have an ordinance regulating retail delivery

hours, said senior city planner Scott Hess.

“Those decisions are usually made on a case-by-case basis,” he

said.

Lowe’s, Home Depot and Wal-Mart have varied delivery schedules

based on their proximity to neighbors, hours of operation and product

offerings.

College relocates to Huntington Beach

Coreland Companies of Tustin has announced that it has negotiated

a lease with Platt College at One Pacific Plaza, a

400,000-square-foot, 12-story office complex at 7711, 7755 and 7777 Center Ave. in Huntington Beach, adjacent to the new

one-millionsquare-foot Bella Terra Retail Center that is under

construction.

As the exclusive leasing agent for One Pacific Plaza, Steven

Hogberg of Coreland Companies negotiated an eight-year lease with

Platt College to occupy the fourth and fifth floors of the 7755

building, totaling 35,272 square feet. The lease is valued at

approximately $7.2 million. Platt College, a nationwide college with

three campuses in California, was represented by Ned Franke of

Cushman & Wakefield in Chicago. The landlord is Mullrock 1-Beach

Pointe LLC.

“We had competing proposals for this space, and we elected to go

with Platt College for numerous reasons, but namely their history and

outstanding reputation in the education field,” said Steven Hogberg,

Coreland’s leasing and sales division vice president. “We are very

pleased with the use and look forward to having Platt College soon

occupy these two floors in our building.”

This is a relocation and expansion of a campus that was formerly

located in Newport Beach. Platt College currently has campuses in Los

Angeles, Ontario and San Diego. Platt College at One Pacific Plaza is

expected to open in November 2005, upon completion of classroom

improvements.

“Additionally, in the first quarter of 2006, One Pacific Plaza

will have three-and-a-half floors available totaling 60,000 square

feet,” Hogberg said.

“West Orange County office properties continue to be an

increasingly favored location for firms who realize excellent value

for their lease dollars along with more favorable commuting between

Orange and Los Angeles counties,” Hogberg said.
