School district seeks commission applicants

The California School Employees Assn. is seeking applicants for an

open spot on the Newport-Mesa Unified School District’s personnel

commission, which oversees the hiring and treatment of the district’s

classified employees.

The personnel commission has three members -- one appointed by the

employees association, one appointed by the local board of trustees

and the third appointed by the other two members. Each member serves

a three-year term. The person hired for the vacant position will

begin Dec. 1.

Among the duties of the personnel commission are overseeing the

merit system for recruitment and selection, maintaining a job

classification system and hearing appeals to disciplinary action.

Candidates for the job must live within the Newport-Mesa district

boundaries and be registered to vote in Orange County. The deadline

for applications is 4 p.m. Oct. 7. To submit a form, go to

o7www.nmusd.usf7 and click on the box for personnel commissioner

application.
