Anteaters claim second place
The UC Irvine women’s golf team finished second at the Ron Moore
Intercollegiate held at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club in Highlands
Ranch, Colo.
The Anteaters shot a final round of 310 Tuesday to end the two-day
tournament with a score of 905 (291-304-310). Tournament host Denver
ran away with the title, shooting a 289 on the final round to finish
with an 880 total. Campbell was second (903) and Colorado was third
(904), a stroke ahead of UCI.
Freshman Selanee Henderson was tied for third after carding a 218
(72-70-76), six strokes behind medalist Emily Hoeper from Denver.
Senior Angela Won was ninth, shooting a 223, while Carling Cho was
tied for 17th with a three-round score of 229. Sophomore Kim
Lorenzana was tied for 34th with a total of 235 and sophomore Jane
Chin was tied for 65th with a score of 249.
The Anteaters return to competition Oct. 15-16 when they travel to
the Nittany Lion invitational.
Coast ties Saddleback, 1-1
* The Orange Coast College women’s soccer team tied host
Saddleback, 1-1, in an Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday.
After a Saddleback injury early in the second half ate 10 minutes
off the clock, OCC (2-4-4, 2-1-2 in OEC) tied the Gauchos (4-6-1,
1-3-1) after Ashley Boyer received a pass from Kaitlyn Shuesler.
Pirate men prevail, 3-0
* The Orange Coast College men’s soccer team made its Orange
Empire Conference debut Tuesday with a 3-0 win over visiting Santiago
Canyon.
OCC freshman Joel Walker scored twice, increasing his season total
to 10 goals, while goalkeeper Trent Painter had three saves against
the Hawks (5-2-0, 0-1). OCC improved 6-2-3.
Lions shut out
* The Vanguard University women’s volleyball team was shut out
Tuesday by visiting Point Loma Nazarene in Golden State Athletic
Conference action, ending the Lions’ three-match winning streak.
The Lions fell, 30-28, 30-24, 30-26, despite a solid effort from
Michal Shortridge, who had 11 kills, and Marissa Cothran, who had 30
assists to go along with 13 digs.
Vanguard, Baptist draw
* The Vanguard University men’s soccer team tied visiting Cal
Baptist, 2-2, Monday in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Joshua McCall and Jarrett Borrego scored a goal apiece for the
Lions (4-3-2, 0-0-2 in the GSAC), while Fraser Kershaw and
Fashinu-Ron Nesbeth scored the two goals for the Lancers (4-1-4,
0-0-2).
