The Sage Hill School girls tennis team, ranked No. 1 CIF Southern
Section’s Division V, defeated sixth-ranked Oxford Academy, 16-2,
Tuesday in Academy League action. Stephanie Langer dropped just one
game in sweeping her three singles sets. Ashley Adams and Sarah
Geocaris also swept for the Lightning.
The doubles team of Grace Graham and Jaclyn Smrecek swept their
sets, 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. Sage Hill, which moved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in
league, hosts Fairmont Prep Friday.
Tars beat Spartans
* WATER POLO: Newport Harbor High’s Brett Auer and Clay Jorth each
had four goals on the road in a 14-9 boys water polo win over Villa
Park Tuesday.
Newport scored eight goals in the second half en route to the
nonleague victory, improving the Sailors to 7-1 overall.
Bryce McLain had 13 saves for the Sailors, while Kyle Sherman
contributed with two goals and Telford Cottam scored one goal and two
assists.
Sailors conquer
* FIELD HOCKEY: The Newport Harbor High girls field hockey team
dominated its first Sea View League game, defeating host Fountain
Valley, 7-0, Tuesday.
Danica Kalmbach, Sasha Grumann and Nicole Newquist each had a pair
of goals, while Amanda Carver added one for the Sailors, who improved
to 13-2 overall.
Eagles triumph
* WATER POLO: The Estancia High boys water polo team earned a 7-2
halftime lead over visiting Orange, and captured a 10-5 Golden West League victory over visiting Orange Tuesday in the league opener at
Newport Harbor.
Estancia improved to 5-1 overall, while Chad Kunert scored five
goals for the Eagles, and Trevor McDonald scored four.
Lightning win laugher
* WATER POLO: The Sage Hill School boys water polo team defeated
La Quinta, 14-4, Tuesday at Corona del Mar High. The Lightning scored
seven times on the man advantage out of 10 attempts.
Leading the way was sophomore James Miller and senior Chris Mazzo
with three goals each. Jordan Cline, Beau Caillouette and Perry Pang
added two goals apiece. Netminder Danny Harold recorded 13 saves for
Sage Hill, which improved to 6-4.
Los Al tops Newport
* VOLLEYBALL: The Newport Harbor girls volleyball team lost to
host Los Alamitos, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-25, Tuesday. Jamie Heenen
led the way with 15 kills and an ace. Megan Munce added 10 kills and
two aces. Newport Harbor, which fell to 2-5, plays in the Nike
Challenge in Chicago Friday and Saturday.
Wounded Mesa falls
* VOLLEYBALL: The Costa Mesa High girls volleyball team fell to
visiting Canyon, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21, in a nonleague match Tuesday.
The Mustangs, who played without senior standout Tracy Bjelland
(ankle sprain) and blocker Alaina Abalos, were led by Heather
Williams, who had six kills and Caitlin Duffy, who finished with nine
digs.
Horn shines for Tars
* GOLF: The Newport Harbor High girls golf team fell to Laguna
Hills, 246-260, in the Sea View League opener Tuesday at Laguna Woods
Golf Course.
Newport Harbor (0-5) was led by medalist Kendall Horn, who shot
45, while Tiffany Kim had 48, Iko Kagasoff had 52, Ali Grace had 56
and Taylor Funk finished with 59.
McKitterick leads CdM
* GOLF: Tesoro High took a home field advantage over the Corona
del Mar girls golf team in a 244-230 Pacific Coast League victory
over the Sea Kings Tuesday at San Juan Hills Golf Course.
Medalist Katie McKitterick shot 43 for the Sea Kings (5-1, 3-1 in
league), while Jessica Milner was close behind with 45, Michelle
Drucker and Courtney Wright shot 47 and Jonna Kim shot 48.
Sea Kings lose in four
* VOLLEYBALL: The Corona del Mar girls volleyball team fell to
Tesoro, 25-22, 25-16, 25-22, 25-23, in a Pacific Coast League
showdown Tuesday at Tesoro. CdM (1-2 in PCL) was led by Brooke Terry
with 11 kills, while Taylor Beachamp had 14 digs and Julianne Piggot
had four blocks.

The Corona del Mar High girls golf team defeated Tesoro, 230-244,
in a key Pacific Coast League matchup Tuesday. The score was
incorrect in Wednesday’s paper.
