Newport Beach CC raises 34K for relief
More than 200 people played in Newport Beach Country Club’s Gulf
Coast championships Tuesday, as approximately $34,000 was raised for
hurricane relief.
The club is expected to give the American Red Cross the check
sometime next week, head professional Paul Hahn said.
There were people who donated money without participating in the
tournament, Hahn said, while the club also raised money with a
raffle.
The Newport Beach Fire Department was on hand to help with
operations, Hahn said.
Paul Salata, founder of Irrelevant Week, made the largest donation
with $1,000, according to Hahn.
The format of the tournament did not present a winner, as the
money raised was the brightest point, Hahn added.
“The people that lost their homes were the ones who won,” he said.
