BELL-JEFF VS. FLINTRIDGE PREP

* WHEN: 7 p.m. today.

* WHERE: Duarte High.

* RECORDS: The Guards are 0-1; the Rebels 1-1.

* LAST WEEK: Bell-Jeff didn’t play; Flintridge Prep lost to

Maranatha, 20-0.

* OUTLOOK: The Guards haven’t played in more than a week after

sitting out last week. Bell-Jeff was originally scheduled to meet Los

Angeles High on Sept. 17, but the nonleague game was called off

because Los Angeles -- a Los Angeles City Section member -- didn’t

submit the proper paperwork with the CIF. Bell-Jeff is a CIF Southern

Section school. As a result, the Guards haven’t played since their

opener, Sept. 10, when they lost a nonleague game to Santa Clara,

21-6. Bell-Jeff -- which had only eight games scheduled -- could play

just seven games this season. Flintridge Prep is coming off a bad

performance last week against the Minutemen. The team could muster

just four first downs and 70 yards of total offense. The Rebels

rushed for minus-24 yards, its worst output this season. Flintridge

Prep senior linebacker Matt Stein finished with a team-high 12

tackles. Fellow senior linebacker Justin Fu added 10 and senior

defensive tackle Austin Reed had two of his team’s four sacks.

* SOMETHING INTERESTING: Not one Santa Fe League team had a

victory during the first two weeks of the season, as Bell-Jeff,

Salesian, Daniel Murphy, St. Genevieve and Cantwell Sacred Heart

combined for a 0-9 record.
