Eagles sweep cleanly

The Estancia High boys and girls cross country teams came out on top
in a Golden West League tri-meet also involving Costa Mesa and Ocean
View Thursday at Fairview Park.
Hector Gomez led the Estancia boys, finishing in 16 minutes, 40
seconds, while C.J. Buchman (16:56), Enrique Vivar (17:38) Jose
Garcia (17:55) and Andy Navarette (18:15) scored for the Eagles.
Sydney Barloon led the Eagles’ girls in 20:11, while Paula
Negrette (21:56), Magali Onofre (22:26) and Cindy Ramirez (22:43)
also scored.
The Costa Mesa girls finished second, paced by Kyla Flores, who
finished first overall in 19:48. The Mustang boys also finished
second, led by Luis Nunez (3rd, 17:21).
Eagles win opener
* TENNIS: Seniors Sarah Muradian and Krizia Tonin swept their sets
Tuesday as Estancia High’s girls tennis team defeated host Orange,
16-2, in a Golden West League opener. Ellie Edles led the Eagles’
singles players, who only lost one set combined.
Estancia (4-2, 1-0) plays Costa Mesa Monday in a home match
previously postponed due to rain.
Sage Hill strikes
* WATER POLO: The Sage Hill School boys water polo team defeated
Martin Luther King High, 7-1, in the Los Altos tournament Thursday.
Chase Caillouette and Julian Tooma led the way with three goals each.
Danny Harold made seven saves in goal.
Mustangs card victory
* GOLF: The Costa Mesa High girls golf team defeated Westminster,
269-284, at David L. Baker Country Club Thursday. The day’s medalist
was Melissa Pardue, who shot a 48. Abbie Dyvig had a 49 and Cayley
Camarillo finished with a 55 for Costa Mesa, which moved to 1-1.
Eagles roll
* VOLLEYBALL: The Estancia High girls volleyball team defeated
Santa Ana Valley, 25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17, in a nonleague match
Thursday. Sarah Braunsdorf and Stacie Watson tallied 11 kills each
and Olivia Schow added four solo blocks. Estancia (7-3) plays at
Orange High in a Golden West League game tonight.
Sage wins 3-way
* GOLF: The Sage Hill School girls golf team defeated Irvine and
El Modena in a three-way competition at Oak Creek Golf Club Thursday
in a nonleague match. Sage Hill finished with a 228, Irvine shot a
242 and El Modena finished with a 286.
Leading the way for Sage Hill was Natalie Kraft with a 40, Justine
Chen with a 43 and Emma Koh with a 46. Sage Hill moved to 4-1 this
season.
Sailors take two
* WATER POLO: The Newport Harbor High boys water polo team opened
the South Coast tournament with an 18-3 trouncing of Rancho Buena
Vista Thursday afternoon. Broc Hill led the way with five goals.
Brett Auer, Gregory Parker, Carson Hill and Nick Yeager all notched
two goals apiece. Kyle Sherman led he defensive effort with seven
steals for the Sailors.
In its second game of the day, Newport Harbor dismantled San
Clemente, 13-4. Jorth led the way with five goals and two assists.
Auer tallied three goals and two assists and Clint Jorth added a
team-high three steals. Goalkeeper Bryce McLain had seven saves and a
steal for the Sailors (4-0).
Twins sweep for CdM
* TENNIS: The Corona del Mar High girls tennis team remained
undefeated by defeating Northwood, 12-6, in its Pacific Coast League
opener Thursday. Leading the way was the doubles team of Miranda and
Haley Young, which swept its sets and dropped only one game.
