o7The following is from the Sept. 13 Laguna Beach Unified School
District board meeting:
f7
Class Size Reduction
The school board unanimously voted to approve submission of the
application to participate in the 2005-06 kindergarten through
third-grade class size program to reduce class sizes, especially for
reading and math classes.
WHAT IT MEANS
The program was implemented eight years ago to improve the
educational program. The district gets incentive money from the
California Department of Education to implement a pupil to teacher
ratio of 20-1. Reducing first-grade class size is the top priority.
Anticipated revenue is $609,748.
Interdistrict Attendance Agreements
The school board unanimously voted to approve interdistrict
attendance so that resident students can attend other school
districts.
WHAT IT MEANS
The plan will allow resident students to attend another school
district; the agreement is based upon factors that will positively
affect student achievement and welfare. The district will experience
a reduction in expenditures associated with student instruction as a
result of reduced student enrollment.
The next Laguna Beach Board of Education meeting will be 7 p.m.
Sept. 27 at the district office, 550 Blumont St. Information: (949)
497-7700.
