The Huntington Beach Green Chargers roared back from a 16-0 deficit
against the Santa Margarita Titans Saturday, pulling out an exciting
20-18 victory in Pop Warner Football Junior Midget Division action.
The Green Chargers (3-0) scored their first touchdown just seconds
before halftime when Justin DeValk and Kyle Clay teamed up on a
60-yard touchdown pass.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Santa Margarita mounted a
serious scoring threat by driving inside the Huntington 10-yard line
early in the fourth quarter. But the Green Chargers defense stopped
the Titans just inches from the goal line.
That stand seemed to pump up the Green Chargers, who responded
when DeValk broke through the Titans defense moments later for a
99-yard touchdown run, narrowing the score to 16-14.
DeValk scored the winning touchdown on a 40-yard run later in the
quarter.
