Man suspected of arson at mall restaurant

An employee at a now-closed restaurant in South Coast Plaza was

arrested on suspicion of arson, after he allegedly set a fire in the

restaurant’s dining room Sept. 5, police said.

Costa Mesa Police arrested Duy Quoc Nguyen, 20, at his Santa Ana

home Wednesday.

Nguyen worked as a busboy at Yujean Kang’s restaurant in the 3300

block of Bristol Street. Nguyen was described as a disgruntled

employee, said Sgt. Bob Ciszek.

The fire was started in the restaurant’s dining room just before

the restaurant opened for the day, Ciszek said. Five employees were

inside at the time of the blaze.

The fire occurred on the last day the restaurant was in business.

Automatic sprinklers doused the fire before major damage occurred,

Ciszek said.

Nguyen is being held at the Costa Mesa city jail on $250,000 bail,

Ciszek said.

Woman guilty of lewd acts to be sentenced

A Corona del Mar woman convicted of attempted lewd acts with a

15-year-old girl is scheduled to be sentenced today in Orange County

Superior Court in Santa Ana.

In March, a jury found Victoria Hawlish, 41, guilty of three

counts of attempted lewd acts with a minor. She was found not guilty

of five more serious charges of lewd acts with a minor.

Hawlish could face nearly three years in prison but is eligible

for probation.
