Soccer teams are fit for ties
AYSO Region 55 kicked off its 2005 season last Saturday with a full
slate of action.
Here’s a look at some of the division results:
Girls’
Under-10 Division
Soccer Sisters 2, Sour Skittles 2
The teams traded goals and played to a tie in their season opener.
Natalie Anzivino scored early in the first quarter to put the Sour
Skittles in the lead, but Briana Kutinsky scored for the Soccer
Sisters to tie the score.
The Sisters were able to take their first lead on a goal by Devon
Graber late in the opening quarter, but Amber Rodriguez -- set up by
Emily Thiem -- scored in the second quarter to tie the match at 2-2.
Dana Conlisk stopped six shots on goal for the Sisters and was
backed by strong defensive play from Jessyca Lackey, Nathalie Muniz
and Jamie Fox.
Under-12 Division
Knockouts 1, Mad Dogs 1
Alexa Vellawoweth of the Mad Dogs fired a shot that rebounded into
the net for the game’s first score. Lindsay Conlisk scored in the
third quarter for the Knockouts.
Niki Geiger of the Mad Dogs and Kasha Rusch of the Knockouts
turned in strong performances in the net.
In club soccer action:
Code Red 4, Irvine 0
South Coast Code Red began its fall club soccer season Saturday
with a shutout of Futbol Club Irvine.
Kelly Mitsumori opened the scoring on a pass from Alli Budd to
give Code Red a 1-0 lead. It became 2-0 when a corner kick by Osiris
Ceja bounced around in the goal area, caromed off several players,
and was finally put away by Breanne Justice.
Kirsten Marony set up the third Code Red goal of the first half by
sending a long pass to Erika Longoria, who maneuvered by several
defenders and then placed a solid shot into the back of the Irvine
net.
Longoria capped the scoring in the second half when she scored off
another feed by Marony.
Tiffany Van Tress, Rachel Pasternak, Ashley Haprov, Lauren Hanson
and Jodi Hwang provided solid defense to held secure the shutout.
JUSA Select 2, Code Red 1
Erika Longoria and Andrea Ecker combined on a scoring play for
Code Red to tie the score, but Junior United Soccer Assn. Select got
the game-winning goal in the second half.
