Indian boys place fourth in meet
CROSS-COUNTRY
Burroughs in Seaside Invitational: The Indian boys had a good
showing Friday at the meet in Ventura.
The boys finished fourth among 35 schools with a team-total time
of 81 minutes 38 seconds.
The event was conducted in grade-level races.
In the senior race, the Indians were paced by Adrian Harrison, who
placed seventh in 15:54. He was followed by Morgan Walker (12th;
16:05), Alex Sandoval (16th; 16:11), Vernon Roque (33rd; 16:54),
Chris Jackson (42nd; 17:03) and Benji Baker (43rd; 17:04)
In the junior boys’ race, James Larsen was 11th in 16:34.
In the sophomore boys event, Juan Mendoza placed 17 in 17:02 and
Dustin Blankenship was fourth in 17:12 in the boys’ freshman race.
The Indian girls’ team finished 12th out of 32 squads with a team
time of 101:41.
In the senior girls’ race, Brenda Santana was 42nd in 21:10 and
Audrey Akcasu was 43rd in 21:11.
In the junior girls’ race, Michelle Martinez was ninth in 19:26
and Lilyana Morejon was 22nd in 20:18.
In the sophomore girls event, Sadee Martinez was ninth in 19:30
and Kerry Hodgins was 39th in 21:22
Burbank in nonleague meet: The Bulldogs placed second Thursday in
a race at Camarillo.
Crescenta Valley won the meet with 43 points, followed by the
Bulldogs (54), Agoura (66), Camarillo (70) and Newbury Park (115).
Aksel Kirakosian led the Bulldog charge with a fifth-place finish
in 17 minutes 23 seconds. He was followed closely by Wyatt Kessler
(seventh; 17:30), Ryan Williams (13th; 17:47), Matt Carey (14th;
17:51) and Forest Goodbar (15th; 18:02).
In the girls’ race, the Falcons again were first with 26 points.
Burbank was second (60) and was followed by Camarillo (74), Newbury
Park (94) and Agoura (96).
Running with only five runners, the Bulldogs were led by Nelly
Shamirian’s sixth-place showing in 21:04. She was followed by Natasha
Christoffersen (10th; 21:41), Michelle Horgan (11th; 21:46), Kiran
Jolly (15th; 22:19) and Rasa Reynolds (18th; 22:42).
The Bulldog and Indian teams -- along with Bellarmine-Jefferson --
will take part in the annual Burbank All-City Meet at 3 p.m. Thursday
at Griffith Park at the Greek Theatre course.
YOUTH FOOTBALL
Burbank Vikings: The city’s youth tackle program teams had mixed
results in opening-season games Saturday.
The program was led by three teams that notched shutouts. Leading
the way was the Junior Black, which defeated Camarillo Silver, 50-0.
The Senior Green beat the Canyon Gold, 20-0, and the Bantam Black
defeated Simi, 30-0.
Losses were suffered by the Pee Wees (16-0 vs. Simi), the Bantam
Green (38-0 vs. Camarillo Blue, Junior Green (34-0 vs. Santa Clarita
Warriors) the Junior White (12-6 vs. Canyon White) and Senior Black
(20-0 vs. Canyon Black).
The Burbank Vikings are the only youth tackle football program in
the city. Teams will be back in action Saturday for second-week
games.
The program’s teams play their home contests at Burbank High.
