Celebrity Surf Jam set for Sunday
Music and surfing will combine at the first Surfrider Foundation
Celebrity Surf Jam on Sunday at the Huntington Beach Pier.
Well-known musicians and professional surfers will make up the
roster for the event, which will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Musicians scheduled to participate include Brandon Boyd, Mike
Einziger and Ben Kenney of the band Incubus, Peter DiStefano of Porno
for Pyros and Jim Lindberg of Pennywise.
Four-time Olympic medal-winning swimmer Aaron Peirsol also will
participate, as will professional surfers Jeff Deffenbaugh of
Huntington Beach -- the event’s co-producer -- event co-chair Pat
O’Connell, Rob Machado, Alex Grey and Dane Reynolds.
The event is co-chaired by X-Games and ABC Sports commentator Sal
Masekela.
Team USA takes silver medal
The Team USA women’s hockey team took the silver medal at the 2005
Women’s Four Nations Cup in Hameenlinna, Finland, after falling to
Canada, 2-1, in the championship game Sunday.
Chanda Gunn of Huntington Beach is a member of Team USA.
Gunn started the championship game in the net and played the first
31:12 of the match. She was replaced by Shari Vogt.
