New Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources

Burbank Unified School District has hired Gabriel Soumakian as the

new assistant superintendent of human resources. Soumakian previously

served as the director of human resources for certified and

classified employees at the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School

District.

He will begin serving employees Burbank’s district on Oct. 1.

Juggling and Origami at library

The Burbank Library will present “Juggling and Origami” at 7 p.m.

Thursday at the central library auditorium at 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd.

Performer Jeremy Schafer will do a juggling act and teach children

origami.

It is part of the “Family Night at the Library” series, which is

funded by Friends of the Burbank Public Library. The event is free.

Burbank Library’s Opera Talks Series

The Burbank Public Library will present the first in their series

of “Opera Talks” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday at the Buena Vista

Branch library, 300 N. Buena Vista St.

The event will feature Los Angeles Opera cast member Louis

Bernstein who will talk about the production of “The Grand Duchess,”

which is being performed this season.
