Anteaters claim crown
The UC Irvine men’s soccer team tied visiting Illinois-Chicago, 0-0,
in double overtime Monday afternoon in the UCI College Classic.
The Anteaters (1-0-1) were declared the winners of the tournament
after going to the third tie-breaker.
UCI senior goalkeeper Ryan Mathy earned his first shutout of the
season, the eighth of his career, with one save. He was named
tournament MVP.
Joining Mathy on the all-tournament team were Anteater juniors
Cameron Dunn, Brad Evans, Craig Ettinger and Anthony Hamilton.
Lions triumph, 1-0
* The Vanguard University women’s soccer team defeated host
Northwestern Nazarene, 1-0, in a nonconference clash Monday in Nampa,
Idaho.
Freshman Erika Barlow scored the game-winning goal in the 65th
minute off a corner kick by junior Heather Hutton.
Kelsey Bowman and Marissa Welliver had one save each to share the
shutout and help Vanguard improve to 3-1.
