Take your shot at Jones Cup

It was Big Canyon’s year at the Jones Cup golf tournament.
It seems like that’s often the case, doesn’t it?
The country club won the old two-man competition for three years
running from 2001 to 2003 and cemented this year’s match with a
12-under-par final score for a best two-ball format that featured two
club pros and the men’s, women’s and senior’s champs.
Not-too-easy pars on the last hole kept the team one shot better
than Newport Beach Country Club, which was trying for a repeat
victory.
The Jones Cup, which pits Newport-Mesa’s four clubs against each
other -- Mesa Verde and Santa Ana, host of this year’s event, are the
other two -- was as exciting as it could get this time around. The
teams were a combined 34 under par, which translates simply into:
There was some good golf being played out there.
Plus, it was a beautiful day on a beautiful course -- but then all
four clubs have wonderful courses to offer.
Next year, think about coming out. There’s always some fine golf
shots, strong competition and maybe, just maybe, more of those sunny
skies.
