Three different players scored goals to power the host UC Irvine

men’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory in its season opener over North

Florida in the UCI College Classic Saturday night.

Anthony Hamilton, Craig Ettinger and Matt Murphy each scored one

goal for the Anteaters, who outshot the visitors, 16-6.

Murphy, a Mater Dei High product, gave UCI a 1-0 lead when he curved a free kick into the box off a defender for his first career

goal in the 26th minute of the first half.

UCI took a 1-0 lead into the half and the ‘Eaters added to their

lead in the 61st minute as Anthony Hamilton, a junior, knocked the

ball in from 15 yards out for the eventual game-winning goal off an

assist from junior Brandon Tario.

North Florida’s Rohan Culley cut the lead to 2-1 less than a

minute later as he booted the ball over the keeper.

Ettinger sealed the victory for the ‘Eaters with a blast from the

right side of the box off an assist from senior Kit Vitagliano in the

83rd minute.

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Mathy had two saves for UCI.
