Team tennis players wanted

The Laguna Beach Breakers 12-and-under advanced team has openings for

girl tennis players for the upcoming fall season.

To be eligible, players must be under 12 through Dec. 15.

Matches during the season are played at 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and

team practices are from 5 to 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday.

In addition, tennis classes and individual lessons are available

for beginner through advanced tennis players of all ages.

Date for Celebrity Surf Jam is set

Music and surfing will combine to form the first Surfrider

Foundation Celebrity Surf Jam on Sept. 11 at the Huntington Beach

Pier.

Professional surfer Pat O’Connell of Laguna Beach is co-chair of

the event.

Popular musicians and professional surfers make up the roster for

the event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Musicians scheduled to participate include Brandon Boyd, Mike

Einziger and Ben Kenney of the band Incubus; Peter DiStefano of Porno

for Pyros; and Jim Lindberg of Pennywise.

Olympic swimmer Aaron Perisol also will participate, as will

professional surfers O’Connell; Jeff Deffenbaugh of Huntington Beach,

who will co-produce the event; Rob Machado; Alex Grey; and Dane

Reynolds.

The event is co-chaired by the X-Games and ABC Sports commentator,

Sal Masekela.

Coaching spots open at Laguna High

Laguna Beach High is seeking coaches in eight sports for this

school year, said Ron Schwartz, the school’s athletic director.

Schwartz said coaches are needed in the following categories:

assistant varsity football, including head freshman coach; assistant

volleyball, boys and girls; assistant track and cross country, boys

and girls; assistant tennis, boys and girls; assistant soccer, boys

and girls; assistant water polo, boys and girls; assistant softball

coach.

Pop Warner still seeks coaches

South Coast Pop Warner Football and Cheer are still accepting

applications for head coaching and assistant coaching positions.

Coaches need not have a child in the league.

In addition, limited football player and cheer signups are still

available for players 5 to 15.

Junior Team Tennis is looking for local players ages 8 to 14 to

fill out its roster.

Players sought for AYSO Region 86

AYSO Region 86 of Laguna Beach is still accepting registration for

its fall 2005 season.

AYSO is a nonprofit organization. Everyone plays and no experience

is necessary.
