Film satisfies the first time
Do you enjoy laughing at the expense of another man’s shortcomings?
If so, you’ll enjoy “The 40 Year Old Virgin.” If you’re easily
offended by sexual humor and crude language, take your money
elsewhere.
I like laughing at other people and sometimes I even make my
living doing this and therefore, I highly recommend this movie.
Guess what? “The 40 Year Old Virgin” is about a guy who is 40
years old and a virgin. I bet you didn’t see that one coming. I hope
this starts a new trend of truth in advertising with movie titles.
The film stars Steve Carell as Andy, a hapless middle-aged man who
has never had sex. This role will make Carell a huge star. Andy could
easily come across as a weirdo or serial killer, but Carell gives the
character a realness not seen in many R-rated comedies.
When Andy’s co-workers find out about his virginity issue, they
attempt to teach him how to score with women. During these highly
comedic scenes, we see how men really speak when women aren’t
present.
You might think the “40 Year Old Virgin” is going to be nothing
but gross-out jokes and potty humor, but there is a cute story. That
being said, this is an adult movie. Some idiots at my screening
actually brought their young children to the theater. It always
amazes me that you have to have a license to go fishing but you don’t
need a license to have children. Don’t bring your kids to this movie.
It’s way too dirty for young minds!
Moving forward. This is a fantastic film for guys in there
late-30’s or early-40’s who’ve had limited luck with women.
Obviously, I can’t relate, but I do know some guys who fit this
description.
“Virgin” is a great couples film and word of mouth will make it a
big hit with both men and women.
If you’re looking to score some comedy this summer, lower your
standards and make a date with “The 40 Year Old Virgin.” Even his
first time out, he gets the job done.
MATT BELLNER is an actor/freelance writer from Burbank. He’s
available if producers decide to make “The 40 Year Old FEMALE
Virgin.”
