Orange Coast College appoints new V.P.

Orange Coast College has appointed Melinda A. Nish, dean of the

school’s business and computing division for the last three years, as

its new vice president of instruction.

Nish, a Newport Beach resident, replaced former vice president

Robert Dees, who succeeded Gene Farrell as president of the college

last April. In her new office, she will be responsible for overseeing

the school’s entire instructional program.

“I look forward to this challenge with great anticipation,” Nish

said in a news release. “OCC is a fantastic institution -- one of the

finest community colleges in the nation. I am excited to have the

opportunity to serve this college’s students, faculty and staff.”

In addition to serving as dean of the business and computing

division, Nish is also president of the Coast District Management

Assn., an organization representing all managers in the Coast

Community College District. Since 2002, she has co-chaired OCC’s

annual Small Business Conference and Expo.

Nish, a Salt Lake City native, earned her bachelor’s and master’s

degrees at the University of Utah and later studied French and

economics in Europe. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in

educational leadership and change at Fielding Graduate University in

Santa Barbara.
