Eight sign with Vanguard
The Vanguard University men’s basketball team has signed five
transfers and three freshmen to join a program that finished 10-19
last season, 5-15 in the Golden State Athletic Conference, and missed
the conference tournament for the second straight season.
Greg Gusiff is one player the Lions are already familiar with.
Gusiff was a member of GSAC-rival Hope International last season, and
scored 13 points in the game against Vanguard Feb. 26. The 6-foot-1
guard was the fifth-leading scorer for the Royals, averaging seven
points per outing.
Daniel Wojan spent his first two collegiate seasons with Solano
Community College in Fairfield, Calif. The 6-8 center averaged seven
points and eight rebounds last season.
Miguel Rosales is a 6-7 post player from East Los Angeles College.
Rosales averaged 14 points and more than nine rebounds a game for the
Huskies, earning All-South Coast Conference laurels last year as well
as team Co-MVP.
De’Auonte’ Johnson is a 6-5 junior forward from Allan Hancock
College in Santa Maria, Calif. Johnson averaged more than 20 points
and 10 rebounds per game last season. He was also named to the
All-Santa Barbara tournament team.Joshua Hamilton, a 6-2 sophomore
guard, will be returning to Southern California after spending his
freshman year with the Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma.
Cameron Done, a 2005 graduate of Faith Lutheran High in Las Vegas,
Nev., will begin his collegiate career at Vanguard. The 6-0 point
guard averaged 16 points and six assists for Faith Lutheran and
helped lead his team to the 3A Nevada state championship. Done was
named the 3A state MVP and was also MVP of the Southern League after
leading his team to the league crown.
Vanguard will also bring in a left-handed freshman guard, Morgan
McGovert from Capital High in Boise, Idaho.
And, capping off the incoming class is 6-4 freshman guard Alex
Dimotsantos, who averaged 24 points per game at Trinity Christian
High in Las Vegas, Nev.
