An 80-year-old Newport Beach woman was listed in grave condition late
Thursday after being hit by a car while jaywalking across San Joaquin
Hills Road east of MacArthur Boulevard, police said.
Soltan Taheria was found lying in the southbound lanes of San
Joaquin Hills Road at 11:42 a.m. Thursday after witnesses reported
she had been hit by a beige Buick LaSabre, police said.
The driver of the Buick, Bettye Fabre, 83, of Newport Beach, was
“very upset,” said Motor Sgt. Ron Vallercamp.
Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
Taheria was taken to Western Medical Center with life-threatening
injuries to her head and body, police said.
San Joaquin Hills Road was closed to traffic between San Miguel
and MacArthur Boulevard for two hours Thursday while police
investigated the accident scene.
Anyone who witnessed the accident should call traffic investigator
John Hudson at (949) 644-3746.
