Tennis tournament

to begin Aug. 20

The 44th annual Huntington Beach Open Tennis Tournament, one of

the oldest tournaments in the county, will take place the last two

weekends of August.

Tournament play will take place in men’s and women’s singles and

doubles, mixed doubles, men’s open and open senior, and 3.5 through

5.0 divisions.

Tournament applications can be obtained at the Pacific Sands

Cabana Club, located at 8141 Atlanta Ave., in Huntington Beach, or by

One dollar from each entry will be donated to the Glen Morton

Trust Fund. Morton, a local tennis pro, was seriously injured in a

car accident earlier this year.

Young athletes can spring into diving

Springboard diving instruction for local youth will be offered

Aug. 15 to 25 by Surf City Diving at two locations in Huntington

Beach.

Instruction will take place at Marina High School and Golden West

College.

Instruction times at Marina are 3:15 to 4 p.m. for beginners and 4

to 4:45 p.m. for intermediate athletes, ages 6 and up, Monday through

Thursday.

Instruction times at Golden West College are noon to 1 p.m. for

beginners, and 1 to 2 p.m. for intermediate athletes, Monday through

Thursday.

The cost per athlete per site is $100.
