Man dies in crash on canyon road

A 30-year-old Costa Mesa man was killed in a head-on collision at

10:05 p.m. Sunday on Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach, police said.

Nathaniel Colin Hall, a passenger in a 1998 Acura Integra, was

killed when the driver of the Acura crossed into oncoming traffic and

collided with a 2004 Toyota Prius. The driver of the Acura, Mary

Werner, of Monrovia, is suspected of drunk driving.

The occupants of the Toyota, Chris and Marie Hansen, of Aliso

Viejo, were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and treated

for minor injuries.

Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.

Werner remains under arrest and in serious condition at Mission

Hospital in Mission Viejo.

Man stabbed with can opener

A man was stabbed with a can opener at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at the

bus depot on Broadway when he came between a husband and wife having

an argument, police said.

The victim involved himself when the man became verbally abusive

toward the woman, police said. After stabbing the victim in the back

of the neck with a can opener, the man took off his shirt to disguise

himself and ran onto Forest Avenue, police said.

Police caught the man and took him into custody. The can opener

was found in the bushes on Ocean Avenue.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with moderate

injuries, police said.
