Seashore Drive home burned in 2-alarm fire
A beachfront home burned in a two-alarm fire Thursday afternoon,
but no injuries were reported.
Newport Beach firefighters received a call of a house fire just
before 4:30 p.m. in the 5700 block of Seashore Drive, fire officials
said. A second alarm was called, and the fire was under control in 31
minutes, a dispatcher said.
No injuries were reported and a damage estimate was not
immediately available.
Man arrested after throwing sandwich
Costa Mesa police reported an assault early Friday morning that
they believe may be racially motivated.
A worker was making a delivery at a coffee shop in the 400 block
of E. 17th Street at about 1:30 p.m. when an apparently drunk man
made a racial slur, Sgt. Marty Carver said. When the worker ignored
the comment, the man threw a sandwich at his head and stole a
flashlight from the delivery truck, police said.
The alleged assailant then ran into a nearby bar where he was
detained by security guards.
Costa Mesa police arrested Adam Michael Dugan, 33, of Newport
Beach on suspicion of assault. They are also charging him with a hate
crime, Carver said.
