Laguna Presbyterian Church will be the only...
Laguna Presbyterian Church will be the only Orange County site for
participation in an unprecedented Transnational Town Meeting for
Middle East Peace via the Internet from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Veteran TV journalist Dan Rather will moderate the discussion,
involving Christian, Jewish, and Muslim leaders in Jerusalem and
Washington D.C. Questions and comments will be received from the
local viewing sites.
Thousands are expected to participate -- including Jews,
Christians and Muslims from Israel, the Palestinian territories, more
than 40 U.S. cities and many countries around the world.
In Jerusalem, Israeli and Palestinian religious leaders have
signed the Alexandria Declaration calling “on all to oppose
incitement, hatred and the misrepresentation of the other” and to
“end the violence that denies the right to life and dignity ... and
defames religion in the world.”
Local discussion following the broadcast will be led by Jerry
Tankersley.
The Transnational Video Conference will take place at Tankersley
Hall, Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave. Participants are
encouraged to bring a lunch, as lunch will not be served. For
information, call (949) 494-7555.
FAA removes air
space restrictions
The Federal Aviation Administration lifted air-space restrictions
Monday that were in force over Laguna Beach after the Bluebird Canyon
landslide.
The flight restrictions -- which prohibited aircraft from flying
over almost the entire city to a level of 3,000 feet -- were imposed
at the request of city safety officials concerned that noise from
low-flying helicopters and other aircraft could interfere with
sensitive monitoring equipment installed to detect movement in the
slide zone.
With the demolition Monday of a home at 960 Bluebird Canyon Drive,
and the resulting bulldozing of earth in the area, FAA officials
decided that flight restrictions were not necessary.
Village Laguna hosts potluck meeting
Village Laguna will host a potluck dinner and general meeting at 6
p.m. Monday on the 3rd floor Community Room at Wells Fargo Bank, 260
Ocean Ave., to award donations and hear presentations from community
groups.
The group has donated $1,000 to the Laguna Relief and Resource
Center to benefit victims of the Bluebird Canyon landslide, and
members will be asked to approve another $1,000 donation at this
meeting.
Village Laguna donates annually to a wide variety of
organizations. This year a total of more than $6,900 will go to the
Crosscultural Council for the La Playa Center and Laguna Day Workers
Center, Even Start, Friendship Shelter, Friends of the Library,
Laguna Beach Boys and Girls Club, Laguna Beach Community Clinic,
Laguna Beach Historical Society, Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Shanti,
Laguna Beach Seniors, Save Aliso-Wood Canyon (VOW), Surfrider
Foundation, Clean Water Now and other environmental organizations.
An additional $1,000 will be combined with the same amount next
year to award two Village Laguna scholarship recipients. Smaller
amounts have already been donated to the American Cancer Society,
Schoolpower, Top of the World Jogathon and the Laguna Beach Exchange
Club for the Police Awards Banquet.
Village Laguna welcomes members and nonmembers to join its potluck
dinner. Bring food for six or more. For information,
Family needs help finding missing Corgi puppy
Travis, a 4-month-old Corgi puppy, is missing from his home on
Cliff Drive in North Laguna.
The puppy apparently escaped from his fenced yard and was last
seen by the Ralphs on Glenneyre St. He ran away when someone tried to
catch him.
The family would like the community to keep a watch out for
Travis. Please contact Laurel Aarsvold at (714) 273-5471 with any
information.
