Sea change at museum

The president of the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum has resigned his

position after less than three years on the job.

“It is with some sadness that I inform you that as of June 18 I

resigned as president and CEO of the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum,”

Glenn Zagoren wrote in an e-mail to the Daily Pilot.

The reasons behind his resignation were not known as of late

Wednesday.

Zagoren had been president of the museum since the beginning of

2003.

“I wanted to thank you for your support during my time at the

museum, and I hope that I can count on your continued support for

other programs that I will remain involved in such as the Committee

for the [Newport Beach] Centennial, the board of directors of the

Newport Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau, a commodore with

Chamber of Commerce and others,” Zagoren wrote.

Peter Pallette, chairman of the museum’s board, said there has

been “a little management change” at the museum, said the board will

release an official statement today, and declined to comment further.

The museum, which was established to preserve the history of the

city’s harbor but also brings in wider-ranging exhibits, will

celebrate its 20th anniversary next year.

The lease for its location in a riverboat along E. Coast Highway

is up in 2008.

Museum board members have talked about possible moves to the

Balboa Fun Zone or Marinapark.
