Miller named MVP

Corona del Mar High senior Wesley Miller was selected the Pacific
Coast League boys tennis Most Valuable Player by the circuit’s
coaches.
Miller, the two-time defending league champion, was the CIF
Southern Section individual runner-up and led the Sea Kings to the
Division I semifinals with a 20-2 record.
Miller was an All-American selection for the second straight
season as well as first-team All-CIF. He also received the league
Coaches’ Sportsmanship Award.
Joining Miller as first-team all-league are teammates Fabian
Matthews, Matt Chou, Ryan Caughren, Spencer Reitz, Jonathan Kroopf,
Alex Nguyen and Sean Pham.
Reitz and Chou, the league doubles champions, advanced to the CIF
Southern Section individual quarterfinals and were selected
second-team All-CIF.
Trio named first-team
* TENNIS: Tristian Cordier, Conrad Whitaker and Michael Garrison
from Sage Hill School were named to the first-team All-Academy League
tennis team by the circuit’s coaches.
Robert Wee, Martin Park, Dan Chin, Tyler Ross, Karam Sethi and
Grant Gerdau were second-team selections.
Mark Adams from St. Margaret’s was the singles Most Valuable
Player while Whitney’s William Cho and Robert Lee earned doubles MVP
honors.
UCI hires Gonzaga
* HIRINGS: Marsha Gonzaga has joined the UC Irvine intercollegiate
athletics staff as academic and life skills coordinator.
Gonzaga spent the past two years as a graduate assistant with
Challenge Athletes’ Minds for Personal Success (CHAMPS) and the Life
Skills Program in the office of student-athlete development at
Arizona State University.
She also worked in career services at ASU, where she earned her
master’s degree. She earned her bachelor’s degree in distinction,
psychology and sociology in 2002 from the University of Oklahoma,
where she competed in golf.
Her duties at UCI will include managing the study-table program
for student-athletes and providing academic counseling assistance for
selected teams.
