Volcom, Inc. amends initial public offering

Costa Mesa surf wear company Volcom, Inc. filed papers with the

Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday that amended the

company’s initial public offering. According to the filing, Volcom

plans to offer almost 470,000 shares to investors. Volcom’s

prospectus stated shares could be priced between $15 and $17.

Volcom’s plans to go public were first announced in April. The

clothing company markets its goods primarily to teenagers attracted

to surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. Volcom also has its own

record label and a division that creates films about extreme sports.

Corona del Mar couple to buy Mighty Ducks

Corona del Mar’s Henry and Susan Samueli received approval from

the National Hockey League’s Board of Governors Thursday to buy the

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, the league announced. The board’s approval

was given pending completion of the Samuelis’ buy from the Walt

Disney Co.

The Samuelis’ deal was first announced Feb 25. An NHL press

release stated the price for the team and a practice facility has

been reported as $75 million.

A former UCLA professor, Henry Samueli co-founded Broadcom Corp.,

an Irvine-based technology company. The Samuelis donated $20 million

to UC Irvine to endow the school’s Henry Samueli School of

Engineering and have also aided Opera Pacific and the Orange County

Performing Arts Center, which will include the Samueli Theater. The

Ducks have not taken the ice since the 2003-2004 hockey season. The

NHL’s 2004-2005 season was canceled because of a labor dispute.
