Little League celebrates Fiesta
Laguna Beach Little League will celebrate “Fiesta Day” Saturday at
Riddle Field. The event, which celebrates the recently concluded
regular season, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the playing
fields.
Among the attractions at the celebration is a giant slide, dunk
tank, speed-pitching machine, snow cones, clowns and music.
The league also will announce its 2005 all-star teams, distribute
trophies and yearbooks, and present its girls’ fast-pitch softball
teams with their inaugural trophies.
Oysters restaurant will cater lunch at $5 per person. The public
is welcome to attend.
In other Little League news:
Rotary and SportsWorld, two Majors Division teams representing
Laguna Beach at the District 55 Tournament of Champions, had their
seasons ended Saturday in second-round play.
Rotary was defeated by Lake Forest American, 4-1, at Chapparosa Park in Laguna Niguel. SportsWorld, meanwhile, fell to Lake Forest
National, 2-1, at the Laguna Hills Sports Park.
For the first time in recent memory, SportsWorld and Rotary gave
Laguna Beach two Majors Division playoff victories in first-round
action on June 6.
SportsWorld had opened the district tournament with a 3-0 shutout
of Newport Beach American, getting a one-hit effort from pitcher
Stevie Contursi, who also doubled, singled twice and knocked in two
runs on offense.
Rotary, meanwhile, began the tournament with a come-from-behind,
7-6 victory over Laguna Hills.
SportsWorld won the regular season Majors Division championship at
Laguna Beach Little League, and Rotary won the division’s postseason
tournament.
