Corona del Mar High seniors Wess Presson and Ben Maggard, along with
Newport Harbor senior Patrick Keehan, contributed in the South’s 10-6
victory over the North in the Orange County All-Star baseball game
Tuesday at La Palma Park in Anaheim.
Presson was 1 for 3 at the plate with a run scored to help lead
the South -- coached by CdM’s head man John Emme -- to a fourth
straight win and a 21-17 record against the North. Presson also
played catcher for the first three innings before shifting to center
field for the fourth and fifth innings.
Maggard pitched a scoreless second, while Keehan played the final
four innings at center field. Offensively, Keehan drew a walk and
scored a run. Newport Harbor Coach Joel Desguin served as an
assistant for the South.
Petrilli is All-American
* DIVING: Newport Beach resident Christine Petrilli, who finished
third in the CIF Southern Section girls one-meter springboard diving
competition as a sophomore at Calvary Chapel High this spring, has
been named All-American by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches
Association of America.
Petrilli was ranked No. 29 by the NISCA, good enough to earn one
of the organization’s 30 All-American designations for private-school
competitors.
The NISCA also names 100 girls All-Americans from public schools.
Petrilli, a former gymnast who began diving in November, trains
with the Mission Viejo Nadadores.
She intends to compete in the national zone championships, July
7-10 in Oklahoma City, Okla., as well as the Amateur Athletic Union
nationals in Florida, July 25-30.
