INTRODUCTION

TO ZEN WORKSHOP

The Zen Center of Orange County is offering an Introduction to Zen

Workshop, which combines experience in Zen meditation with small

group instruction. The workshop will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on

“CHAZZ ‘N JAZZ”

Cantor Jonathan Grant of Temple Bat Yahm in Newport Beach has

announced that “Chazz ‘N Jazz,” the Cantor’s Annual Grand Concert,

featuring a potpourri of liturgical gems, Yiddish favorites and

numbers from Broadway, Jazz and the Silver Screen, will be held at

ST. JOHN THE

BAPTIST PARISH CARNIVAL

St. John the Baptist, a Roman Catholic parish, will be holding its

sixth annual carnival, which will feature thrilling rides including

the Zipper, Yo-Yo and a Ferris wheel, June 10 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

and June 11 and 12 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the church and school

grounds at 1015 W. Baker St., Costa Mesa. Carnival fare always

includes plenty of fun, food and games. Funds raised by the carnival

are split evenly between the parish church and school.

ZEN JUMP START

The Zen Center of Orange County is offering a Zen Jump Start

program. The program runs from Tuesday through July 17. It includes

six Tuesday sessions at the center and an all-day Sunday retreat. The

sessions include group and individual instruction as well as study of

classical and contemporary Zen literature. As part of the program,

participants will receive a Zafu (sitting cushion) and the Zen Jump

Start Manual. Classes are held at the center, 120 E. 18th St., Costa

BOOK STUDY

Fairview Community Church hosts a book study, which started the

first Wednesday in May, studying the book “So You Can’t Stand

Evangelism, A Thinking Man’s Guide To Church Growth” by James R

Adams. This is a strategy for thoughtful evangelism that welcomes
