UCI report is good news for business grads
Job prospects for business school graduates are the best since
2001, according to a nationwide study conducted by UC Irvine’s Paul
Merage School of Business.
Of the 68 U.S. business schools participating in the survey, 92%
reported an increase in recruiting activity from one year ago. In
addition, 70% predicted an increase in average base pay for
graduates, 66% reported an increase in companies conducting on-campus
interviews, and 51% predict an increase in average signing bonuses.
Randy Williams, the Merage School’s director of career services,
who conducted the survey, said the job market in southern California
has particularly increased in the last 18 months.
“The number of job opportunities received by the career center and
the number of companies recruiting 2005 UCI MBA graduates has doubled
when compared to last year,” Williams said in a release. “Companies
that we have not seen on campus since 2001 have returned to again
recruit MBA candidates. Recruiting for MBA students with skills in
finance or consulting is particularly strong this year.”
Elks Lodge Flag Day
ceremony planned
The Newport Harbor Elks Lodge 1767 will hold its second annual
Flag Day ceremony June 13 at Newport Beach City Hall.
Members of the Elks will explain the American flag’s history, and
local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will present previous versions of
the flag. At the end of the ceremony, the flag will be lowered and
the American Legion color guard will perform a miliary tribute.
General guidelines for displaying the American flag include flying
it only from sunrise to sunset unless a spotlight is shined on it;
not flying it in the rain or inclement weather; always hanging it
with the stars and blue field at the top and always on the left side
facing front; never letting the flag touch the ground; and retiring
it through proper procedures, including burial or burning, when it is
old or damaged.
For more information on the Flag Day ceremony, contact Elks Lodge
official Lee Ray at (949) 487-0875.
