It’s Fish Fry time
JIM DE BOOM
Don’t forget to visit Lions Park in Costa Mesa this weekend for the
annual Costa Mesa Newport Harbor Lions Club Fish Fry.
The hours are from noon to dusk today and Sunday, according to
club president Lee Gibbs. There will be game booths, carnival rides,
hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade deserts, delicious deep-fried fish, a
baby contest and the crowning of Miss Costa Mesa. There will also be
a stage with a wide variety of live entertainment.
It is a great place for a family to experience a sense of
community. It is a venue where citizens can meet their local elected
officials, and business and community leaders.
According to Gibbs, proceeds from last year’s event provided
donations to the Costa Mesa Historical Society, Project Look,
District 4L4 Sight and Hearing Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of
the Harbor Area, Estancia Baseball Boosters, Costa Mesa Baseball
Boosters, 4L4 Hearing and Speech Action Committee, Someone Cares Soup
Kitchen, Harbor Mesa Lions School Box Program, Save Our Youth, Youth
Employment Services, DARE, Blind Children’s Learning Center, Costa
Mesa United, Costa Mesa Senior Center, College Park Elementary, OC
Model Engineers Railroad Club, Shalimar Learning Center and
Newport-Mesa Unified School District Project Success.
In an e-mail to club members, Gibbs reported that Lions Club
member Tom Rea died May 31. Rea was a member for 42 years, and for
many of those years, he was the club’s treasurer. Funeral
arrangements are being made by his wife Dorothy and their daughter.
Gibbs asked club members to reflect on his life and love of our
club. Our condolences to the family.
