Imua Outrigger and the Newport Aquatic Center will look to repeat
recent victories in men’s and women’s racing, respectively, in
today’s 12-mile Kahanamoku Klassic Ironman outrigger race starting in
Marina del Rey at 8:30 a.m.
Imua’s men already have two first place finishes under their belts
this year in the Spec and Bradley classes and the NAC women took
first in the Ka Naia Rig Run two weeks ago in Santa Barbara.
Both the Imua men and NAC women are in the hunt for the title of
the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association’s Ironman
series.
More than 1,00 participants are expected to take part in today’s
12-mile race from Marina del Rey to the Santa Monica Pier and out
into the open sea before finishing at Mother’s Beach in Marina del
Rey.
The junior and novices start at 8:30, followed by the women and
coed crews at 10:30 and the men at 12:30. The event is open to the
public.
