Huntington Beach resident Katie Lynn Kent was honored May 25 as the
2005 Outstanding Graduate for the College of Health and Human
Services at Cal State Long Beach during the university’s commencement
ceremonies.
Kent graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in communicative
disorders and finished her undergraduate studies with a 4.0
cumulative grade-point average. She will continue her studies in the
fall and pursue a master’s of science degree in speech-language
pathology at the University of Arizona.
Kent, the daughter of Cal State Long Beach alumni Chris and Brenda
Kent, is a 2001 graduate of Marina High School.
Samantha Costantini, a Huntington Beach resident and senior at
Santa Ana’s Mater Dei High School, has been selected as student of
the month. Costantini is an honors and advanced-placement student
with a 4.45 grade-point average. She is president of Mater Dei’s
California Scholarship Federation as well as a member of the National
Honor Society, Renaissance and student council.
Costantini is a four-year varsity cross-country athlete and
all-state runner.
She will attend UC Irvine on a cross-country and track scholarship
and plans on majoring in biology with hopes of going on to medical
school.
Drew Hunthausen, a graduating senior at Marina High School, will
be honored by Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, an organization
that records audio textbooks for children with disabilities.
Hunthausen will receive a scholastic achievement award June 12 at the
Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City. Hunthausen lost his sight at age 12
and has used audio textbooks throughout his education.
