The 55th annual Huntington Beach Pier Swim

The swim will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the Huntington Beach

The Surf Invasion Tour

The surf contest will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Pacific

Coast Highway and Ninth Street. This open men’s surf contest is the

first stop on the Surf Invasion Tour. The event is free for the

A Festival of Folktales

The stories will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the

Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave. Storytellers will

present tales from around the world and there will be performances of

international music, marionettes, dancers, crafts and children’s

theater. The festival celebrates the opening day of the library’s

summer reading program. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in

The Rip Curl Grom Search Surfing Competition

The surfing tour is seeking out the next generation of talented

The Bodyboarder International Bodyboarding Competition

Rudy’s Radical Science

This fun and entertaining show of magical chemical reactions will

Hall of Fame induction

Some of the world’s greatest surfers and legends of surfing will

be inducted into the Surfers Hall of Fame at 10 a.m. at Huntington

Beach Surf and Sport, 300 Pacific Coast Highway. Their hand and feet

imprints will be set in cement and they will autograph their tiles.

California Beach Volleyball Assn. Juniors Tournament

The Offshore Grand Prix

The boat race featuring cigarette-style boats will take place from

The Sunset in the Park cross country race

The race will be held at 4:30 p.m. in Huntington Beach Central

Park, beginning at 7111 Talbert Ave. The race is a high school-age

The Longboard Sand Soccer Tournament

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Aug. 21 at

the beach next to the Huntington Beach Pier, Pacific Coast Highway at

Main Street. This amateur soccer competition features men and women

ages 18 and older from around the country. The event is free to

The 51st annual Huntington Beach Distance Derby

Orange County’s longest-running road race will begin at 7 a.m. at

the Huntington Beach Pier, Pacific Coast Highway at Main Street. The

scenic, flat course includes a 10-mile run, five-mile run or walk and

a Surf Kids fun run. Proceeds go to benefit Project Self Sufficiency,

a program to assist single parents and their children. The cost is

The Huck Finn Fishing Derby

The free fishing event for children up to 15 will be held from 8

a.m. to noon at the Huntington Beach Pier, Pacific Coast Highway at

The Quiksilver and Roxy Volleyball youth tour

‘Breath of Spring’

Ah, the British have a way with farces! When a maid with a shady

past is suspected of stealing a mink stole, a former Army major and

several other lodgers of a boarding house endeavor to return the fur

without being caught. They take such delight in the secretive scheme

that they form a syndicate for stealing and returning furs, all for

the excitement of the adventure. Written by Peter Coke and directed

by Terri Miller Schmidt, the play will be performed at 8 p.m.

Thursday through Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Newport

Communities’

24th annual Corona del Mar Scenic 5K race, 2-mile Fun Walk and 1K

Kids Dolphin Dash

The race begins along the bluffs overlooking the ocean and will

proceed through the beautiful residential streets of Corona del Mar.

Separate races for men and women are limited to 1,500 participants

each. Children age 3 to 10 can compete in a 1K Dolphin Dash.

Registration fees are $25 for the run or walk in advance, $30 day of

event and $10 for the Dolphin Dash (includes breakfast from local

Balboa Island Parade

Every year, more than 5,000 Balboa Island residents, merchants and

friends march down Marine Avenue along with the star-spangled floats,

kids on festooned tricycles, live bands, antique cars full of
