The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce and Ensign Intermediate
School on Tuesday will announce the winners of this year’s Ensign
Character Awards, given by teachers, parents and administrators to
students who demonstrate strong ethical values.
Two back-to-back assemblies, honoring seventh- and eighth-grade
students, will be held in the school gym, with Mayor Steven Bromberg
speaking at the first and Richard Luehrs, chamber president, at the
second.
Ensign Intermediate School is located at 2000 Cliff Drive, Newport

Teen mythology
staged at SCR
South Coast Repertory’s Teen Players are presenting their spring
production, “Club/Underworld,” in the theater’s 94-seat Nicholas
Studio this weekend.
The Teen Players are a performance group within the theater’s
youth and teen program. The show, written by Jennifer Kiger and
directed by Laurie Woolery, tells the tale of a group whose lives
intersect with some of Greek mythology’s most famous characters.
Show times are: 7 p.m. Friday; 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 5
