UC Irvine’s Gender Education Series on Tuesday will hold “Take

Back the Night,” a candlelight vigil and march to raise awareness

about sexual violence.

Walkers are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at 100 Gateway Commons to

begin the journey around campus.

A reception to welcome the new president of Orange Coast College,

Bob Dees, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

HARD TO PIN, POLITICALLY

Author and political journalist Christopher Hitchens, whose work

has appeared in publications including Vanity Fair and The New

Yorker, will speak Friday and Saturday at Newport Beach Central

Library about literature in the 21st century.

His speeches, part of Newport Beach Public Library Foundation’s

Distinguished Speakers lecture series, are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
