Suspected purse snatchers arrested
A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of stealing a woman’s
purse Sunday morning from the Orange Inn, police said.
The victim told police that the woman suddenly grabbed her purse
while she was eating at the restaurant in the 700 block of North
Coast Highway at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The woman ran outside the restaurant with the purse and got in the
passenger side of a black SUV. The victim and another witness ran
after the woman and attempted to get the purse out of the car, police
said. The victim reached through the window and tried to grab the
purse but the woman pried her hands off the car door, police said.
The driver of the car drove off and a witness followed them.
Police stopped the two on Wesley Drive at Pacific Coast Highway,
police said.
Jennifer Denmark, 20, of Salinas, and Michael Byrd, 41, of Santa
Ana were arrested on suspicion of robbery, police said. Denmark was
also charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia,
police said.
