Sportsworld gets comeback

Sportsworld staged a sixth-inning comeback Monday night at Riddle
Field in defeating Team Hobie, 4-3, in Laguna Beach Little League
Majors Division action.
Spencer Freidenrich scored on a hit by Alex Bekken in the third
inning to give Team Hobie a 1-0 lead. Sportsworld countered with a
run in the fourth inning when Stevie Contursi hit a home run.
Alex Iannotti also sent a long ball to the fence in the inning,
but Team Hobie left-fielder Cody Alter came up with a spectacular
catch.
Sawyer Pierce and Jack Pillsbury both scored in the fifth inning
to give Team Hobie a 3-1 lead.
In the sixth, Sportsworld staged a two-out rally.
Down to one final out, Contursi and Iannotti each reached base on
an error. Taylor Preston then walked, loading the bases for Drew
Wheeler, who smacked a two-run single to right to tie the game.
Wheeler eventually stole third base, and he scored what turned out
to be the winning run when Zack Jaffe singled down the line.
Contursi struck out the final three batters after Team Hobie had
loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Two days before it rallied to edge Team Hobie by a 4-3 score,
Sportsworld had the tabled turned when VFW posted a sixth inning
rally to win by an identical score.
After Grif Fair had singled, Santi Pierini completed an
outstanding offensive showing by hitting a two-run home run to
complete the comeback.
Pierini’s first home run had tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth
inning.
An RBI single by Matt Neev in the second inning to put VFW up 1-0
before Sportsworld grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the third inning on
Taylor Preston’s two-RBI double.
In the top of the sixth, Sportsworld took its final lead when Alex
Ionnatti single drove home Brian Vail to make its 3-2.
