DOWNTOWN PARKING

The city will review the annual Downtown Parking Master Plan.

Residents will have an opportunity to express concerns about parking

along Main Street, while city officials can discuss new parking

strategies for the future.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A multitude of issues could arise from the forum including parking

fees, the use of city revenue and the city’s future needs. Several

downtown business owners have expressed concern about the price and

time length of the city’s parking meter system. City officials could

also discuss the parking needs of the new Strand and Pacific City

shopping centers slated to be built along Pacific Coast Highway.

SCHOOL CLOSURES

In the face of several school closings in Huntington Beach, the

City Council plans to exercise its rights under the Naylor Act, which

allows it to buy school properties at a discounted rate. The move is

a procedural step that would notify the Fountain Valley School

District that it might attempt to buy Wardlow Field -- a popular park

the school district has recently announced it plans to sell.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council may decide to exercise its options under the Naylor

Act, but it still must find a way to pay for the property. Several

council members have proposed putting a bond issue before the voters

to raise capital to buy closed school sites.

NEWLAND CONDOMINIUMS

The council will consider entering into a consulting agreement for

an environmental report on a proposed 204-unit condominium project

slated for the western side of Newland Avenue, south of Lomond Drive.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The environmental report is just the preliminary phase of the

housing project and does not guarantee approval by the council.

Developer WL Direct will reimburse the city for any expense

associated with the report.
