Coast College trustee joins state policy board
Coast Community College District Trustee Walter G. Howald has been
elected to a statewide policymaking board representing California
community college trustees. Howald, the current president of the
Coast Community College board of trustees, will serve a two-year term
on the Community College League of California’s (CCLC) board of
directors.
The board meets approximately six times a year and takes action on
education policy issues before the state Board of Governors and the
Legislature. The board also provides policy direction to CCLC staff
concerning statewide educational policy, research initiatives,
publications, workshops and conferences.
Howald is a graduate of the UCLA School of Law and president of
his law firm, which has a primary emphasis on civil, business and
trial law. He is also a member of the American, California State and
Orange County Bar associations.
The Huntington Beach City School District continues to ask for
interested community members to apply for appointment to the Asset
Management Committee. The committee will consider action on the
following closed school sites: Burke, Gisler, LeBard and Kettler. The
school district is seeking applicants who represent a diversity in
ethnicity, age and socioeconomic status. The committee will hold two
public meetings in October and will present a recommendation to the
board of trustees.
Applications are available at any school site or by calling the
District Education Center, (714) 964-8888. The deadline to submit an
application is May 20.
