The CIF-Southern Section office in Los Alamitos released the pairings
Monday for the CIF-SS/Toyota 2005 Boys Volleyball Championships, and
three local schools are included in two different playoff fields.
In Division I, Edison and Huntington Beach, which shared the
Sunset League championship with Los Alamitos, both learned their
first-round assignments.
Huntington, which was designated the league’s third-place entry,
will play on the road Friday at Sea View League champion Newport
Harbor. The Oilers and Sailors are no strangers to each other this
year, as Huntington won at Newport Harbor on April 1.
Edison, meanwhile, has a first-round bye. The Chargers were one of
five schools to receive a first-round bye, joining top seed and Bay
League champion Mira Costa, Bay League runner-up Redondo Union, South
Coast champion San Clemente and Mission champion Loyola.
Edison will host the winner of a Friday first-round match between
Serra League winner Santa Margarita and South Coast League No. 3
Mission Viejo, in a second-round game Tuesday.
Ocean View begins its quest for a Division III title Friday when
the Seahawks, the No. 3 team out of the Golden West League, play at
San Gabriel Valley League champion Downey. All First rounds are at 7
p.m.
