Savage sweeps ‘Eaters
Guided by former UC Irvine baseball coach John Savage, UCLA swept the
Anteaters in the season series after an 11-1 nonconference victory
Tuesday at Anteater Ballpark.
UCI (25-21) began the series with a 3-1 loss to the Bruins (12-33)
April 26 at Los Angeles.
UCLA starter Paul Oseguera scattered six hits and allowed a run in
the first inning Tuesday on a sacrifice fly to improve to 1-0.
UCLA took and held the lead with three runs in the top of the
second. With a runner on second and two outs, the Bruins came up with
three consecutive singles off starter Justin Cassel (7-3).
Reliever Travis Rhymes was hit for five runs in the fifth,
highlighted by a two-run single from Chris Denove.
Outfielder Chris Jensen’s two-run home run in the top of the sixth
extended the lead to 10-1.
UCLA was led by Denove, who drove in four runs and went 2 for 5
with a run scored while Jensen added three RBIs while going 4 for 5
at the plate. UCI continues nonconference action this weekend with a
three-game series against UC Davis at Anteater Ballpark.
