Guided by former UC Irvine baseball coach John Savage, UCLA swept the

Anteaters in the season series after an 11-1 nonconference victory

Tuesday at Anteater Ballpark.

UCI (25-21) began the series with a 3-1 loss to the Bruins (12-33)

April 26 at Los Angeles.

UCLA starter Paul Oseguera scattered six hits and allowed a run in

the first inning Tuesday on a sacrifice fly to improve to 1-0.

UCLA took and held the lead with three runs in the top of the

second. With a runner on second and two outs, the Bruins came up with

three consecutive singles off starter Justin Cassel (7-3).

Reliever Travis Rhymes was hit for five runs in the fifth,

highlighted by a two-run single from Chris Denove.

Outfielder Chris Jensen’s two-run home run in the top of the sixth

extended the lead to 10-1.

UCLA was led by Denove, who drove in four runs and went 2 for 5

with a run scored while Jensen added three RBIs while going 4 for 5

at the plate. UCI continues nonconference action this weekend with a

three-game series against UC Davis at Anteater Ballpark.
