Here are some items on the board’s agenda tonight.
SCHOOL WELLNESS PROGRAM
In 2004, President Bush signed the Child Nutrition and WIC
Reauthorization Act, which requires educational agencies
participating in the National School Breakfast and Lunch programs to
establish nutrition guidelines for food on campus, goals for physical
activity and other health-based measures. The board will vote tonight
on whether to adopt the Coordinated School Wellness program.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A yes vote. Newport-Mesa has taken a number of steps this year to
promote health and fitness at its schools, including the Steps to
Healthy Living program at a number of elementary schools and special
“A to Z Salad Bars” at Estancia High and TeWinkle Middle School.
MEASURE A UPDATE
The district will vote to receive the quarterly investment report
on the Measure A modernization project, which seeks to renovate 28 of
the district’s campuses.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A yes vote and a positive report. Measure A reached its halfway
point of construction last week, on time and on budget, and expects
to be finished by January 2007.
