American Summer Whites is the theme of this week’s wine-tasting

“Controlling Weapons of
Mass Destruction: Lessons from Iraq” will feature Hans Blix,
chairperson of the Commission on Weapons of Mass Destruction and the
former United Nations chief weapons inspector, will share the lessons
learned while inspecting for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq
prior to military action by the U.S. and its allies. The veteran
diplomat from Sweden is often noted for his calm, pragmatic approach
to diplomacy. Blix is the author of “Disarming Iraq.” This lecture is
co-hosted by the Center for Global Peace and Conflict Studies’ 14th
Annual Margolis Lecture and will be held at 3 p.m. in the Social

Jean Ardell, author of
“Breaking into Baseball: Women and the National Pastime,” will
offer sharp insights on women as fans, players, owners, and umpires
as she explores the complex relationships between women and baseball
throughout history. Ardell lives in Corona Del Mar with her husband,
a former first-baseman for the Anaheim Angels. Copies of Ardell’s
book Breaking into Baseball: Women and the National Pastime will be

Rotarian Nathan Auerbach
will depart from Corona Del Mar to walk a 25-mile leg of his
2,200-mile journey, the West Coast Walk, which is planned to raise $1
million for Rotary International’s PolioPlus program. Community
members and Rotarians will greet Auerbach at various stops along the
route as well as at the Carpenters Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m.
Auerbach will trek through the major coastal cities of California,
Oregon and Washington, finally reaching Vancouver, Canada in
mid-August. He will visit 100 Rotary clubs in 100 cities during the
course of 100 days to honor Rotary’s 100 years of service. The walk
also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Salk vaccine for
polio. Auerbach will be at Five Crowns Restaurant in Corona del Mar
at 9 a.m.
“Arab Music: Artistry and Ecstasy” will feature internationally
renowned musician Ali Jihad Racy in a lecture demonstration at 4 p.m.

A “Western Family Hoedown” fundraiser to help support abused and
neglected children featuring pony rides, a petting zoo, face
painting, cow-milking, mechanical bull rides, rodeo ropers and line

the Orange County Fairgrounds, 88 Fair Dr., Costa Mesa. Admission is

Orange county residents can experience yoga nidra first-hand at a
special series of workshops lead by Barbara Templeton. Yoga nidra is
a seldom heard of yoga technique that is deeply restorative and

disease, anxiety, insomnia, ulcers and depression. And because there
is such a deep state of relaxation, many people experience intuitions

“The Dark Side of the
Universe,” a presentation by UC Irvine astrophysicist David Buote,
will examine the progress scientists have made in establishing the
existence of dark matter and dark energy. The universe is believed to
be governed primarily by “dark matter” and “dark energy” --
mysterious components that continue to puzzle scientists. Buote will
speculate on the ultimate fate of the universe and outline prospects
for uncovering the nature of the “dark side.” The lecture will take
