Joining the capital dance

Long, boring hours sitting in high-backed chairs, listening to

politicians drone on, one after another. News conferences with plenty

of visual charts for the cameras. Fundraising lunches, complete with

rubbery chicken.

Is that possibly all that goes on in Sacramento?

Or is there something else?

Assemblymen dancing, maybe? Elected officials racing past each

other in Capitol building hallways? Politicians retreating to their

offices after a long day of work to get a bit more work done?

Maybe. Just maybe.

In order to find out a truth about the state’s capital, the Daily

Pilot last week sent politics reporter Alicia Robinson and

photographer Kent Treptow north to capture a few days in the life,

and work, of Newport-Mesa’s elected officials: Assemblymen Chuck

DeVore and Van Tran and state Sen. John Campbell.
