Rushing perfect for Red Sox
Jacob Rushing put on a perfect performance on the mound Saturday to
lead the Red Sox to an 8-0 shutout of the Yankees in Majors Division
action at Seaview Little League.
Rushing sent the Yankees down in order in each of the six innings
and didn’t allow a hit, striking out 13. In addition, Rushing aided
his cause with a triple and single at the plate.
Jordan Sobelman had a double and single, and Nolan Heyer and
Quentin Moscaritolo each had a pair of hits for the Red Sox.
In other Majors Division action:
Red Sox 12, Angels 9
Jacob Rushing went three-for-three with a triple, three RBIs and
two runs scored to power the Red Sox victory.
Dominic Granado had a two-run double, Matt Kibby doubled, Quentin
Moscaritolo had two hits and an RBI, and Nolan Heyer provided a hit,
an RBI and struck out six to get the pitching win.
Jordan Bender and Lane Hepburn had one hit and one RBI each for
the Halos.
Pirates 13, Cubs 9
The Cubs bolted out to what appeared to be a safe 8-0 lead, but
the Pirates staged a rally to post the comeback win.
Winning pitcher Nick Pedevilla struck out eight in the final five
innings.
Taylor Campbell went three-for-three, Jacob Yusko doubled twice
with an RBI, Aaron Anguiano had a two-run double and singled, Gerald
Marcucci singled twice with two RBIs and J.D. Keef hit a clutch
double to score the winning run for the Pirates.
The Cubs’ Ryan Ortolf hit a two-run double, Steven Malone doubled
and hit an RBI single, Clayton Mase had two hits and an RBI, and
Connor Mase had a two-run single.
Cubs 2, Angels 0
Cubs’ starter Ryan Ortolf struck out five in three innings, and
relief pitchers Clayton Mase and Steven Malone helped to combine on a
one-hit shutout.
Vincent Wetzel tagged a triple and scored on Ortolf’s RBI single.
Tony Boozan had an RBI single.
Charlie Miller pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and
also provided the Angels with their only hit on offense.
Pirates 15, Yankees 9
As they had in an earlier game against the Cubs, the Pirates had
to overcome a huge deficit to pull out a victory.
They trailed the Yankees, 9-2, before mounting a comeback in a
game that featured 23 total hits.
Ruben Munoz struck out eight in three innings and had a double on
offense. Kyle Curtis doubled, Troy Baljeu singled twice with three
RBIs, and Allon Rhoten singled twice for the Yankees.
Gerald Marcucci doubled twice with an RBI, Taylor Campbell had
three hits and scored four runs, Christian Anderson had two hits and
four RBIs, Nick Pedevilla had two hits and two RBIs, Lauren
Czerniachowski singled twice with an RBI, and Aaron Anguiano had two
hits and got the pitching win for the Pirates.
At Huntington Valley Little League:
Minor A Division
Padres 10, Pirates 5
The Padres combined a 14-hit attack with solid pitching to defeat
the Pirates.
Garret Garcia struck out three in three innings pitched, Alex
Alagata struck out five in a three-inning stint and Tyler MacLeod
came on in the sixth inning to work the Padres out of a bases-loaded,
no-outs jam to end the game.
Tyler Morton and Steven Tovatt doubled, Garcia hit a long ball off
the top of the left-field fence, and Diggy Busak, Christian Milner,
Reece Kinsbursky, Zach Williams and Logan Taylor each singled for the
Padres.
At Ocean View Little League
Minor A Division
Giants 9, Royals 4
Aaron Miali went three-for-three and Dane Perkins allowed no hits,
while striking out 10 in four innings to lead the Giants.
Perkins, Andrew Wall, Jake Bauers and Grant Mayeaux each added two
hits to the Giants’ attack.
Casey Hayes led the Royals on offense with a double and struck out
four in two innings.
Red Sox 9, Padres 4
The Red Sox improved their record to 6-1-1 with the victory over
the Padres.
Dee Atwood threw two innings to get the win, and Zack Gates
pitched the final four innings to record the save.
David Feirstein reached base four times and scored twice, Trevor
Braff walked twice and scored a run, Tyler Carlson scored twice, and
Joey Blood continued his hot hitting by sending a double to the wall
in the fourth inning.
Conner Cassotta and Tyler Hammock had key hits in the fifth inning
to spark the Red Sox offense and put the game away for good.
Giants 8, Diamondbacks 6
The Giants exploded for 11 hits, including back-to-back home runs
by Grant Mayeaux and Dane Perkins, in defeating the Diamondbacks.
Mayeaux and Robert Cornwell each finished with three hits, Troy
Gross had two hits, and Kyle Jepson and Jake Bauers each had a hit.
Bauers pitched the first three innings and gave up three hits,
while Mayeaux finished the game and worked his way out of a
bases-loaded jam.
The Diamondbacks were led by Shane Carter, who had two hits and
scored twice.
Padres 10, Yankees 5
Wyatt Albert struck out eight in three innings and hit two doubles
on offense to lead the Padres.
Stuart Morton pitched two innings of relief and struck out three.
Alec Villalobos pitched the sixth and struck out the final batter.
Joseph Amaral had a key third-inning RBI single, Branden Williams
went three-for-three and Mitchell Vega and Roger Lemberg each
singled.
The Yankees’ Billy Fay homered for the second time this season.
